Despite defeating a lot of money at the IPL 2025 auction, it may not yet be a soft season for Punjab Kings.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be one of the dark horses in the 2025 Edition of India Premier League (IPL). The franchise retained only two players in Prabhsimran Singh (INR 4 million rupees) and Shank Singh (INR 5.5 million rupees), both are players without limit. Then, with a remaining bag of Inr 110.50 million rupees, Punjab Kings had its task at the 2025 mega IPL auction in Saudi Arabia.
In addition to its newly designated patron Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 million rupees), some of the notable purchases of Punjab Kings include Arshdeep Singh (INR 18 million rupees), Yuzvendra Chahal (INR 18 crore), Marcus Stoinis (INR 11 crore) and Glenn Maxwell (INR 4.2 crore) by his name. They passed a huge INR 110.15 million rupees at the IPL auction, but was it worth it? There may be some auction options that could come to chase PBK in IPL 2025. We take a look at some of them here:
Do not retain Livingstone and Rabada
As stated above, Punjab Kings retained only two players before the IPL 2025 auction, which meant that they had four right letters to combine (RTM) to be used. Although they used one of those RTM cards to recover Arshdeep Singh, Liam Livingstone of England and Kagiso Rabada de South Africa could also have been valuable options. Of course, these players may not have flourished in the IPL in recent years, but you bring your experience to the table, which would have helped PBK in a big way.
Lockie Ferguson prone to injuries
Lockie Ferguson in New Zealand is surely a talented cryket player, but the fact that he is prone to injuries could mean that Punjab kings are at a disadvantage. Punjab Kings acquired the pacemaker for its base price of inr 2 million rupees, but a foot injury kept Lockie out of the ongoing champions trophy.

It is also not a certainty to play the IPL. Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh could have been a dignified option or even the Afghanistan ship.
Lack of depth of the bank
Of course, on paper, Punjab Kings batting alignment seems promising with people like Prabhsimran Singh, Marcus Stainis, Glenn Maxwell, Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, to name a few. But it is the strength of the bank of the team where they lack. They have Vishnu Vinod and Priyansh Arya. However, your lack of experience in IPL does not help.
While Vishnu has played only six IPL games between 2017 and 2023, Priyansh has not yet made its IPL debut. However, Priyansh is reaching the back of an excellent season at the opening Delhi Premier League Los Year, where he scored 608 races of 10 games. However, it has not been tested in cash.
