MI tried to include several good cricketers in their team but had to back out at the last minute due to tight budget.

Mumbai Indians (MI) were clear about what they wanted during the IPL 2025 auction and they got their choices right. They covered almost all the bases and put together a quality lineup to compete hard in the next edition.

However, despite bidding hard, they also missed out on some quality players. They tried to include several good cricketers in their team but had to back out at the last moment due to tight budget.

We look at three players for whom MI bid unsuccessfully in the IPL 2025 auction.

Quinton de Kock

For Quinton de Kock, the bidding war began between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) arrived at the arena. The dispute between MI and KKR lasted for a few bids before MI backed out.

Finally, KKR got him for INR 3.60 crore and MI’s offer was the second to last one. Maybe they could have pushed harder to get Quinton, but they had other spots to fill and had to let him go.

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer previously worked with Mumbai Indians and now that he is fit and firing again, MI want to regain his services. They went for him immediately, and while the bidding war between them and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) began, Rajasthan Royals (RR) joined in midway.

MI made an offer for Archer for INR 12.25 crore, but RR was more desperate to get him. When RR made the final offer of Rs 12.50 crore, the five-time champions had to let him go and lost a quality sprinter due to the exorbitant price.

Josh Hazlewood

Mumbai Indians picked up several Indian and foreign pacers but couldn’t get most of them due to various reasons. They also tried to land Josh Hazlewood, Australia’s premium pacer with ample value in the powerplay and in the middle order.

They joined the bandwagon midway through the bidding war and went up to INR 12.25 crore, but RCB gave them INR 12.50 crore and they got it. MI lost another quality pacer due to their low budget and I would be hugely disappointed to see him go.
