The rules could be implemented since 2028.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering three main rules to introduce the International Cricket. These could be implemented in the next transmission cycle, which begins in 2028. One of the few changes is that the Board is looking to rule out the use of two new balls in an International Day (ODI).
They can also introduce watches in the game in test coincidences for better management of previous rates. In addition to these, the U19 World Cup could become a T20 format.
Game watches in the tests
The ICC is also considering the introduction of watches in the field in the red ball cryket. These will have an upper limit of 60 seconds between each of the results of a test.
After a successful trial from December 2023 to April 2024, the CPI made it mandatory to use the stop watch at the white ball cryket since June 2024. This helped regulate the time between the overs and finish the game in the assigned time. With the addition of watches in the test matches, the ICC intends to complete 90 overs in one day.

Two new balls in Odis
The CPI Committee, including President Jay Shah, is arguing to eliminate the second new ball in the 50s on. Bowling players can start the game with two new balls, but they can only use one after 25 overs. They can choose between the two new balls they want to continue with.
Previously, legendary players like Sachin Tendulkar and Brett Lee had criticized the rule of two new balls in Odi. They complained that the rule favors batters more in the game while interrupting the balance between bat and ball. However, the ICC is not changing the two ball rule completely in the game conditions. The rule only aims to bring the reverse swing back using an old ball after half of the game of the game.
T20 format for the U19 Men World Cup
CPI officials are also considering changing the format of the U-19 World Cup of men. The 50 Superiors tournament could become a 20th event.
According to a Cricbuzz report, many experts expressed to keep the format of the Men’s U19 World Cup unchanged. But some contradicted their opinion. After two women’s cups of female sub-19 played in the T20 format, in 2023 (South Africa) and 2025 (Malaysia), the Board wants to provide similarity in both the ICC U-19 championships.
