Adil Rashid makes history and becomes the third fastest bowler to claim 200 wickets in ODIs

England national cricketer Adil Rashid has achieved a huge feat in the history of ODI cricket. The leg-spinner became the third-fastest bowler to pick up 200 wickets in the 50-overs format, surpassing the likes of Anil Kumble and Ravindra Jadeja in the elite list.

Adil Rashid achieved the feat in the ongoing second ODI against the Australian National Cricket Team. The second game of the five-match series between the teams will be held on Saturday (September 21) at Headingley in Leeds.

Rashid, who has been England’s best white-ball bowler, has stepped up in this match. The leg-spinner has provided his team with crucial breakthroughs and ensured that the hosts remain on top of the game, having lost the first match.

Rashid removed Glenn Maxwell for his first wicket of the day. The leg-spinner bowled a slider from the front of the hand and with a fairly full length on off. The batsman tried to take a slog sweep as he wanted to aim very square. But the ball flew towards mid-wicket where Jacob Bethell caught the ball with ease.

After that, Rashid removed Adam Zampa for his second wicket. The leg-spinner got a leg-break which the Australian batsman missed due to the extra bounce. The batsman failed to control it and hit it straight into the hands of Olly Stone.

Rashid completed his 200 wickets in just 131 innings and now has only Saqlain Mushtaq (101 innings) and Shane Warne (124 innings) ahead of him. With the way he is bowling, he can surely double the figure in the 50 overs format. In terms of England bowlers, only Darren Gough has reached 200 wickets faster (134 matches), and Rashid sits 17th on the overall list.

Rashid is way behind the all-time leader in the wicket-taking charts with spin in this format. Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan stands at the top with 534 wickets to his nameAmong active players, Shakib Al Hasan (317) and Ravindra Jadeja (220) are his only contemporaries.

As for the match, England have been sensational with the ball as they have taken wickets at regular intervals and put Australia under tremendous pressure. Apart from Adil Rashid, Brydon Carse has taken three wickets while Matthew Potts and Jacob Bethell have taken two wickets each. The visitors razed the opponent by 270 runs in just 44.4 overs.
