After Rohit Sharma, selectors set to hold talks with Virat Kohli after Sydney Test

Both sides will discuss the way forward as the Indian team is ready to enter the biggest transition in its history.

While India Test captain Rohit Sharma has decided to sit out the ongoing Sydney Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), it is understood that he has already played his last match for India in the longest format. Rohit had been struggling with the bat and his captaincy decisions on the tour were also not the best.

Now, according to a report in Indian Express, after Rohit, the Indian management will hold talks with former captain and opening batsman Virat Kohli regarding his future.

After the BGT in Australia, both sides will discuss the way forward as the Indian team is ready to enter the biggest transition in its history.

Virat Kohli has also been struggling for results with the bat, making just one century in the BGT so far. Barring that knock, Kohli posted paltry scores of 7, 11, 3, 36, 5 and 17.

Neither Virat Kohli nor Rohit Sharma, another senior player who is expected to survive the transformation.

While Ravichandran Ashwin also announced his retirement after the ongoing third Test of the BGT, only Ravindra Jadeja remains as the other senior player in the team.

However, Jadeja is expected to continue in the scheme of things and the all-rounder’s presence will be valued during the transition phase.

For Rohit, however, as things stand, it is highly unlikely that the selectors will include him in their plans beyond the current tour of Australia.

In Rohit’s absence, talisman Jasprit Bumrah is expected to take the captaincy reins in the longer format. He already led the troops in the first Test in Perth, which Rohit missed due to the birth of his second child, and once again in the final Test in Sydney after Rohit was eliminated.
