Young Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav will miss the upcoming white-ball series against England, comprising five T20Is and three ODIs, due to a back injury. Mayank Yadav is still recovering from the injury sustained last year and is unlikely to regain his form in time to be considered for the T20I squad.

Yadav made his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024. However, he suffered another injury after the series. He missed the T20I series against South Africa in November, as well as domestic tournaments such as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mayank Yadav unlikely to be fit for England series, reports indicate

According to a report in The Times of India, Mayank Yadav is still recovering from a back injury and is unlikely to regain his form in time for the T20I series against England.

The 22-year-old has not been included in Delhi’s likely squad for their first match of the second leg of the Ranji Trophy, which begins on January 23 against Saurashtra. Yadav is expected to return during IPL 2025.

“He is suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He has not even been named among the probables for the first Ranji match of Delhi’s second leg against Saurashtra starting January 23,” said a BCCI source. TOI.

Mayank Yadav has been recovering at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru for the past few months. He last played a competitive match on October 12, 2023, in the third T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.

The Delhi pacer made headlines in the IPL 2024 season while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. The right-arm fast bowler consistently played at speeds in excess of 150 kmph, including a top speed of 156.7 kmph. However, his impressive run was cut short after just four matches due to abdominal pain.

Indian selectors set to announce squad for England T20I series

Indian selectors are expected to announce the squad for the five-match T20I series against England in the coming days.

The provisional squad for the Champions Trophy and the three-match ODI series against England will likely be decided after January 18-19 as the BCCI plans to request an extension from the ICC, given the original deadline of January 12.

“According to sources, the selectors are likely to first pick the Indian team for the five-match T20I series, which will begin on January 22 with the inaugural T20I in Kolkata. They may pick the team for India’s three-match ODI series and the Champions Trophy on approximately January 19,” the report added.

The five-match T20I series will begin on January 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chennai, Rajkot and Pune will host the next three matches, with the final match taking place in Mumbai on February 2. Following the conclusion of the T20I series, the teams will play a three-match ODI series from February 6 to 12.
