‘As amazing as Shamar in Australia’: West Indies captain praises bowling sensation for match-winning performance against Pakistan

Comparing this victory to the Gabba heroics last year, Brathwaite exclaimed that this victory was equally surprising.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite praised Jomel Warrican for his wonderful performance in the team’s historic victory in Multan. Calling him “outstanding”, Brathwaite highlighted the brilliance with which he applied pressure from the start.

“Jomel was exceptional. Watching how he bowled and the pressure he generated from the first ball was incredible. With the bat, you can’t get any closer to him. I think he did a fantastic job with the bat as well. But as far as bowling goes, I know he has worked hard over the years.”

Comparing this victory to the Gabba heroics last year, Brathwaite exclaimed that this victory was equally surprising. He acknowledged how difficult it is to win a Test match in Pakistan.

“This one is right up there (with the win at The Gabba), both wins in incredible tests. “Coming here and playing here in Pakistan, it is never easy to win a Test match, so to have done so is fantastic.”

Jomel Warrican finished as the leading wicket-taker of the series.

While the West Indies batsmen found it difficult to get going, the deck was tailor-made for their spinners and Jomel Warrican made the most of it. He finished the series as the leading wicket-taker, snaring 19 wickets at an average of 9 and a strike rate of 22.68 in two matches, including two five-wicket hauls.

He also contributed with the willow, amassing 85 runs at an average of 42.50, with a best of 36. His useful cameos with the bat gave West Indies that edge, and they revived after the first few wickets when they looked down and outwards in the second test.

His all-round effort meant Warrican won the Player of the Series award, and will go down as one of the best performances by a Caribbean player in Asian conditions. Sure the mallets were adequate, but I needed to put the ball in the right areas to catch the wickets.

The West Indies have recorded some historic wins in the away Test format of late. The Gabba victory was special, but it came when they were sure they would lose the match very early on the first day.
