The whole drama started when Mulder took an unnecessary shot in his follow-up.

Babar Azam and Wiaan Mulder were involved in a heated moment on the fourth delivery of the 32nd over during the third day of the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan. The whole drama started when Mulder took an unnecessary shot in his follow-up.

Mulder bowled a long delivery outside the crease, to which Babar stepped forward and drove it back to the bowler. The player picked it up instantly, immediately threw it to Babar, and the two exchanged a few words.

Babar was gesturing to Mulder to be afraid of the stumps instead of aiming at him, and the bowler said, “You were out of your area.” The umpires had to intervene and calm things down among the players, and Aiden Markram and Shan Masood also had a chat with the batsman.

Babar is usually a calm character who doesn’t get too involved in sledding or country pranks, but he was probably frustrated by Mulder’s deliberate attack on his body. The bowler had the stump to hit if he felt Babar was out of place, and his performance was completely wrong.

Pakistan hits back hard after being asked to move on

After conceding 615 in the first innings, Pakistan failed to bat well in the second innings and were left with just 194. There were a couple of decent knocks from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, but no one could convert them into big scores.

Therefore, South Africa imposed the continuation and asked Pakistan to bat again, and the visiting team responded strongly. Shan Masood (102*) and Babar Azam (81) put together a massive 205-run stand for the opening wicket before the latter departed.

It was the highest opening partnership ever taken while trailing in Test cricket and the highest for Pakistan for any wicket while trailing. This 205-run stand was also the second-highest partnership for any wicket in a Test match for Pakistan and South Africa.

However, that was the only casualty for Pakistan in the second innings of Day 3 as night watchman Khurram Shahzad saw the day off for the team. It was a good counterattack by Pakistan, who seemed to fall early.
