Delhi Capitals (DC) senior pacer Mukesh Kumar rattled the stumps of explosive Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Rovman Powell in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Arun Stadium Jaitley of Delhi on Tuesday, May 7. .

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. They made two changes in the team as Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel were not available for selection due to an issue. RR added Shubham Dubey and Donovan Ferreira to the team. Delhi Capitals also made two big changes by bringing in Ishant Sharma and Gulbadin Naib.

Thanks to the brilliant batting performances of Abishek Porel (65), Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) and Tristan Stubbs (41), Delhi Capitals posted a huge total of 221/8 on the board.

Defending the total, the Delhi Capitals bowlers were very good and kept the RR batsmen calm, barring Sanju Samson. The RR captain showed a batting masterclass and scored 86 runs off 46 balls, before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar in the 16th over.

In the end, the equation came down to 29 for 6 and Mukesh Kumar came to bowl the final over. On the first ball, Trent Boult took a single and gave the strike rate to Rovman Powell in the hope that the West Indies batsman could hit some boundaries.

That was not the case at all as in the second ball of the 20th over, Mukesh Kumar bowled a full delivery at 132 kmph outside the stump which beat Rovman Powell’s blade and crashed into the stumps. RR were stopped at 201/8 and DC won by 20 runs.

Talking more about Rovman Powell, the batsman has received good support from the Rajasthan Royals team management but he has not yet contributed anything to the team. He has so far recorded scores of 11, 26, 27 and 13 in the 4 innings that he has batted.

Speaking before the match, Rovman Powell revealed that there is great communication and clarity in the RR camp, which is the reason behind their success. He also spoke about his batting and said:

“I think it’s the communication between the captain, the coaches and the players. Communication helps a lot, communication brings clarity throughout the group and I think that has been a driving force of our success so far. As a batsman, you get excited, but the important thing is that when you hit, you do the basic things well. I think it was an easy thing to reflect on, fortunately I was there at the last moment, I just missed a complete pitch, in close games like that, you “I can’t. thinking too much, Bhuvi bowled a big over. Hopefully, next time I’m there, I can lead my team to the finish line.”

Rovman Powell added that he needs to prove his worth to the team and revealed that there is a lot of planning in HR behind the scenes. He elaborated:

“There is a bit to prove but it is nothing personal. I am here to do a job for Rajasthan and I will do it. One thing I like about this team is the way they plan, we as West Indians can plan.” So, I can get into specific details, that’s something I’m looking to take from a personal point of view and see how I can convey that to my fellow West Indians.”
