He praised Rohit’s leadership and called him a “superstar”.
India captain Rohit Sharma recently quit the final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) due to his poor string of performances.
Following Rohit’s selfless act of prioritizing the team, famous Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar posted an emotional post on his social media account on Instagram.
He praised Rohit’s leadership, calling him a “superstar” and expressed confusion at the criticism directed at him. He maintained that Sharma should be celebrated for his selfless choice over his own individual performance.
“I just have to get this off my chest… This guy has done a lot for Indian cricket and has captained our team incredibly well and successfully over the years. His ability with the bat speaks for itself and there have been countless innings where he has shown us the elite level at which he performs,” Akhtar wrote.

Rohit Sharma has struggled to perform in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy
In the ongoing BGT, Rohit Sharma scored just 31 runs in five innings, at an average of just 6.20. He initially batted in the middle order during the Adelaide and Brisbane Tests, but then moved up to the top order in Melbourne.
This decision led to the exclusion of Shubman Gill from the playing XI, a move that proved ineffective as Rohit’s struggles with the bat continued. In addition to his problems, his decision-making on the field also raised concerns.
Rohit’s overall performance in Tests throughout 2024 has been disappointing, with 619 runs in 14 matches at an average of 24.76. His contributions span two centuries and two half-centuries, but his inconsistency has been evident.
While rumors are doing the rounds about Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the longer format, the Indian captain today clarified that his decision to stay on the sidelines was solely due to his form and no other reason.
