Team India has achieved a historic triumph after beating Bangladesh in the first Test match between IND and BAN in Chennai. It is noteworthy that Team India now has more wins than losses in Test matches in international cricket.

India crushed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rohit Sharma & Co. amassed 376-10 in the first innings.

After a batting collapse at 144-6, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin came to the team’s rescue with their 86 and 113 respectively.

Later, India bowled out Bangladesh for just 149 with a 4-wicket haul from Jasprit Bumrah. When Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to perform in the second innings, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant scored impressive tons to boost the score.

India were 287-4 and set Bangladesh’s total for 515. In the final innings, the visitors could only reach 234 before losing all their wickets.

India has more wins than losses in Test cricket

Interestingly, India has achieved an impressive record after the win against Bangladesh. For the first time in the history of Test cricket, India has more wins than losses in the sport.

Team India now has 179 Test match wins in international cricket compared to 178 losses. Thus, their winning margin has surpassed their losing margin. Notably, this has happened for the first time since 1932.

According to statistics, Team India has played 580 Test matches in international cricket. Out of these, they have won 179 matches and lost 178. A total of 222 matches ended in a draw. Team India has a winning percentage of 50.13 in Test cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin wins POTM in IND vs BAN first Test

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin won the Man of the Match award for his brilliant performance in the first Test between IND and BAN. The right-handed batsman scored a century in the first innings.

Later, he also picked up 5 wickets in the second innings, taking his total to 6 wickets. He emerged as champions at his home stadium in Chennai. With the win, India also maintained their top position in the 2023-25 ​​ICC World Test Championship points table.

India and Bangladesh will play a total of two matches in Bangladesh tour of India 2024. The second IND vs BAN 2024 Test match starts on September 27. The venue of the match is Green Park in Kanpur. India leads the series 1-0.

India and Bangladesh will also play a T20I series later. The T20I series will observe a total of three matches. Bangladesh is led by Najmal Shanto in the Test series.
