MI managed to keep their big 4.
Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Mumbai Indians (MI) have managed to retain all their best players ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline today.
Apart from captain Hardik Pandya, MI also signed former franchise captain Rohit Sharma, talisman Jasprit Bumrah along with India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and young talent Tilak Varma.
After the retentions, captain Hardik Pandya, confirmed as the team’s leader for next season, expressed the brotherhood that exists between the players.
Pandya said, “Five people of whom we all have many good memories together. We are one. We are five fingers but one fist. That’s how I see it. We are going to come with all our weapons, with brotherhood, friendship and at the same time we are going to support each other no matter what happens.”

How did MI manage to retain all their top stars?
Notably, MI’s retentions were made possible by a commendable act by Rohit Sharma.
In an unexpected and generous gesture, Rohit volunteered to be retained as the fourth player on MI’s retention list for IPL 2025, despite being the captain and the franchise’s most successful player throughout the years.
Worth INR 16.3 crore, Rohit’s election allowed Bumrah (INR 18 crore), Suryakumar (INR 16.35 crore) and Hardik (INR 16.35 crore) to secure positions highest retention, highlighting the team’s emerging leaders.
Going into the IPL 2025 auction, MI has already spent Rs 75 crore and will have Rs 45 crore in their bag along with an RTM option to use on any player they deem fit to bring into the team.
