Former RCB player blames Rohit Sharma’s captaincy calls as India look to salvage series whitewash against New Zealand

Karthik pointed out that Rohit’s poor form with the bat made it more difficult to lead the team.

India lost the second Test against New Zealand by 113 runs and the series 2-0, with one match still to play, marking their first home series defeat in 12 years. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is coming under fire and Dinesh Karthik has been the latest to express his concern.

On Cricbuzz, Karthik said that Rohit’s captaincy was not at its best. He noted that Rohit tried his best but things did not work out for India.

“Not at his best. I thought he had a very tough Test match, he did everything he could. I think there is a lot of pressure on him, I could see it, because as a team, everything they tried, it didn’t go very well,” Dinesh Karthik said.

Karthik also said that Rohit Sharma might reflect on his decisions in the match and wonder if he reacted to situations rather than anticipating them. He also noted that Rohit’s poor form with the bat made leading the team more difficult, hurting his overall performance and pace.

“And coupled with the fact that he didn’t get any runs, it must have really hurt him. So overall, it wasn’t his best Test match. It will be a Test match in which you will reflect and think: “What could I have done better? Was he a reactive captain or a proactive captain? There is always a fine line, you need to always be right in international cricket to get consistent results.

“He did his best, I would say, with everything he could, but when you look at the context of the game, it has to be said that it was not his best game, neither for him nor for the Indian team,” he concluded. .

Rohit is going through a tough time with the bat. In the two Test matches against New Zealand, he managed only fifty in four innings, and the other three scores were 2, 0 and 8. In the previous Test series against Bangladesh, he scored only 42 runs in two matches.

India must win the Mumbai test to stay in the race for the WTC final

India are currently trailing 2-0 in the home series against New Zealand after losses in Bengaluru and Pune, which has been a major setback for the team. The third Test match will be held in Mumbai from November 1, and India must win this match to keep their hopes alive in the final of the World Test Championship.

Furthermore, they face another tough challenge with an upcoming five-match Test series against Australia in Australia. To qualify for the WTC final, India needs to win 4 of the 6 test matches, including the one in Mumbai.
