In what has been the latest development according to reports today in India, it is learned that Gautam Gambhir is all set to become the head coach of the Indian team. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor will replace Rahul Dravid in charge after the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir is reportedly willing to take on the responsibility of the Indian team despite his commitments to Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. If he takes over the role in the Indian team, he will have to leave the franchise, which he guided to the third title in IPL 2024.

Reports claimed that the BCCI did not make any formal approach to Gautam Gambhir for the head coach post. However, informal talks have taken place between the two sides. Rumors of him taking over became stronger after the first half of IPL 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is known to be interested in appointing Gautam Gambhir as head coach even though the former Indian cricketer has no coaching experience at the highest level. The governing body seemed impressed with his mentorship in the IPL.

Gautam Gambhir first joined Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor for two seasons in the IPL. The former India cricketer guided the team to two league playoffs and then joined Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as a mentor.

Recently there were reports on Cricbuzz regarding the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of Team India. It is learned that both Jay Shah and Gambhir are on the same page as they share the same belief that “We must do it for the country.”

A top franchise owner, close to Gautam Gambhir, confirmed to Cricbuzz that the KKR mentor has agreed to take up the role of team India’s head coach and the official announcement regarding the same will be made soon.
