Gujarat Titans are currently in dispute for a first place for the League phase
Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings are in the upper and lower parts of the Premier League (IPL) table of India (IPL) 2025 respectively and have multiple things working for and against them.
Gujarat Titans began the season with a limited defeat against Punjab Kings, but then won six of his next seven games to remain in the first two positions of the table.
CSK, meanwhile, began the campaign with a convincing victory over the Mumbai Indians, but then lost seven of his next eight games to stay in roots at the bottom of the classification.
Stephen Fleming in CSK’s failed auction strategy
The contrasting performances of this season are reflected by the philosophies of their coaches in chief, Ashish Nehra and Stephen Fleming, who had faced several times while playing for India and New Zealand in the past.
CSK has cut and changed its game XI several times this season. They also had a captaincy change with the elbow injury of Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad that brought back Mrs. Dhoni for a third period of captaincy. The five times champions have also brought and delivered debuts to young batters Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis.

When asked how affected the mistakes of the auction, he replied:
“The auction is a very fluid beast. It is like buying (for) 25 hours and seeing that it comes out at the end of it mentally and, sometimes, physically exhausted. And to be fair, I still think we have a good team. We are not far away.”
GT chief coach Ashish Nehra explains his strategy
This is in marked contrast with Nehra, who has teacher GT’s rise to the top with a collective effort of his squad.
“Every time you think about an auction, all teams are more or less equal in terms of force. My simple approach is that the most important thing is what these teams play, not how it looks on the sheet, but how good they are in the field,” Nehra told Star Sports before Monday’s clash against Rajasthan Royals.
“From my little knowledge of the Crick, I can’t look at a squad and say ‘Wow, this team is so good or not so good.” If you look last season, the teams that were not the best on paper arrived at the play-offs. Something similar happened the previous year. This tournament is very tight, ”he added.
GT has had multiple players who hit the shape before or during the tournament. The tastes of Sai Sudharsan are in dispute over the orange cap, while R Sai Kishore, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are in dispute over the purple cap. Nehra explained what matters to him while picking up his squad.
“The only basis I look is whether my players are fit or not because sometimes two or three of their important players are injured. That makes a difference. The margin of error is very small,” said the former left pacemaker.
