Rishabh Pant has the talent to attract fans across the globe, and now legendary Australian batsman and wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has come out with words of praise for the Indian batsman and wicketkeeper.
Pant has often been compared to the Australian great because his style of play is quite similar to Gilchrist’s aggressive style in Test cricket. But according to Gilchrist, Pant takes aggressive batting to a whole new level.
It is noteworthy that Rishabh Pant recently returned to Test cricket after a long time and once again won over all his fans with his remarkable performance in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
Rishabh Pant’s fearless batting draws high praise from Adam Gilchrist
Rishabh Pant steadied the Indian cricket team’s innings after the initial setbacks by scoring 39 off 52 balls in the first innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The same pattern followed in the second innings and the left-hander once again proved his worth by smashing a record-breaking hundred on the third day.
It was not just a display of batting ability but also of responsibility under pressure and courage, something that no one else admired except Gilchrist. The former Australian wicket-keeper has emphasised that Pant’s fearless nature sets him apart from others, and has said that the Indian star attacks with an even greater intensity than he showed during his own illustrious career.
The cricket pundit further mentioned that the way the 26-year-old manages to digest pressure and at the same time entertain is perhaps the reason why he has emerged as one of the best batsmen in Test cricket. He also described Rishabh Pant’s fearless batting as a “class act”.
Adam Gilchrist further expressed his excitement at watching Rishabh Pant play and stressed that he would gladly pay to see the left-hander in action. The legendary cricketer noted that Pant possesses a unique combination of talent, humour and charisma, which makes him not just a formidable opponent but a true entertainer of the game.
Rishabh Pant attacks a bit more than me: Adam Gilchrist
Cricket.com quoted Adam Gilchrist as saying: “I think he attacks a bit more than me. He was playing aggressively at the time but Rishabh looks fearless. What I like is that he slows down from time to time and absorbs a bit of pressure. He is a top-class player.”
Gilchrist further noted: “He is, as they say, a lazy guy who sits in the seats and people pay for it. I would happily pay to watch him play cricket. So I think that is a great quality, if people recognise him in that way because he gets the results, he is a winner and a survivor, as we know. He is all class in everything he does. He is very funny, he has a sense of humour. He knows how to conduct a very serious matter in a fun way.”
It is noteworthy that before donning the white jersey for India, Pant played one first-class match in the ongoing 2024 Duleep Trophy, where he regained his old touch, and is now on fire with the bat against Bangladesh.
