‘He doesn’t do what he says’: Former India player slams Gautam Gambhir for ‘hypocrisy’ after BGT defeat

He also confirmed a breakup between Rohit and Gambhir.

Since Gautam Gambhir took over as coach of the Indian team, the Men in Blue have suffered some unfavorable results, the latest being the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) defeat.

The first disappointment was when Sri Lanka recorded their first bilateral ODI series victory over India since 1997 in August last year.

It was then followed by India’s first Test series at home, when New Zealand beat the hosts 3-0 in November.

To make matters worse, India also ended up giving up on the BGT, which it had retained for almost a decade.

In the wake of such a horror show, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary criticized Gambhir for being a “hypocrite”.

In an interview with News18 Bangla, Tiwary opened up and said:

“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. It doesn’t do what it says. The captain is from Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. “Rohit has been pushed to the forefront to take care of all the issues.”

Manoj Tiwary raises urgent questions

Manoj Tiwary also criticized Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nayar, the bowling and batting coaches respectively, as India failed in both departments during the recent BGT.

Apart from Bumrah, no other bowler had looked truly lethal, while India’s star-studded batting line-up failed to get going, barring some inspiring displays from India’s youngsters.

“What good is a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, you will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was in Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir and the Indian coach is comfortable with him,” Tiwary added.

Manoj Tiwary also confirmed speculations about a strained relationship between Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma. He expressed concern about how the two could collaborate effectively given their different leadership approaches.
