Shortly after guiding Punjab Kings (PBKs) to its first final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in more than a decade, Shreyas Iyer has led the semifinals elsewhere. This time, they are the Sobo Mumbai Falcons in the Mumbai Falcons 2025 League. Under its Captaincy, the team won four victories from five games in the group stage. Iyer has achieved a good balance between youth talent and experienced players, establishing the Falcons as contestants for the serious title.
Iyer explained how he fixes them to perform multiple tasks and what keeps him underway. He said: “I only try to enter my area, and try to do things that are facing me. I try to keep me focused as much as possible, just to stay in the present, embrace the situation and hug the crowd because sometimes they become very electrifying and transmit energy.

The last three IPL seasons have exhibited Iyer’s caliber as leader. Reflecting on his trip, he talked about his growth over the years and the lessons he has taken on board.
He said: “It brings a lot of maturity and responsibility. It is always expected to work and contribute in the best possible way for the team because every time there is an obstacle or some type of adversity that faces as a team, they always come to the captain. I think I have a lot of experience as I have been captaining since I was 22 years old. I have enjoyed the moments and they have also started. I love the fact that I come out and come.”
The emerging T20 leagues have served as a valuable trampoline for bud talent throughout the country. Iyer highlighted the importance of such tournaments to nurture and develop the next generation of Cricket players.
“The Mumbai Cricket Association has made great efforts to bring this league and identify the talents that have been constantly acting at the Mumbai base. This gives them a great platform to come and express themselves and also to prosper beyond the Crick of the Club.”
While the Indian team prepares for its red ball tour of England, Iyer is outside the test squad. However, it is still focused on the current challenge. His goal is to add another trophy to his cabinet with the hawks Sobo Mumbai.
The semifinals and the tournament final are scheduled to be held at the Wankhede stadium on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. The first semifinal will feature the Eagle Thane strikers who face Mumbai South Central Marath Royals. The Falcons will face the Bandra Blasters in the second.
