ICC punishes Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams for violating Code of Conduct

Zimbabwe national cricket team player Sean Williams has come under scrutiny following his antics in the second ODI against the Pakistan national cricket team. The batsman was punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the code of conduct.

Zimbabwe national cricket team batsman Sean Williams has been found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. He violated article 2.8, which refers to “disagreeing with the decision of a referee during an international match.”

The Zimbabwe batsman expressed his disappointment with the umpire after Saim Ayub was awarded lbw in the second ODI against Pakistan.

The incident took place during Zimbabwe’s 26th innings against the Pakistan national cricket team in the second ODI. The batsman expressed his disappointment with the umpire after Saim Ayub was awarded lbw. He gestured with his bat at the umpire, who didn’t like that.

In addition to violating the ICC Code of Conduct, Sean Williams also received a demerit point in the disciplinary file. This was his first offense in 24 months and therefore he was not severely punished by the International Cricket Council.

Sean Williams admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees Andy Pycroft.

Under the ICC Code of Conduct, Level 1 offenses carry a minimum penalty of an official caution and a maximum penalty of 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Field umpires Michael Gough and Forster Mutizwa, along with third umpire Iknow Chabi and fourth umpire Langton Rusere, leveled the charge. Sean Williams admitted the infringement and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Therefore, there was no need for a formal hearing.
