The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today (October 17) announced the Indian women’s team for the upcoming three-ODI series against New Zealand women.

Interestingly, a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star is not in the team. Richa Ghosh, who joined the franchise at WPL 2023 for INR 1.9 crore will miss the bilateral series due to her 12th standard board exam.
The BCCI confirmed the news of Richa Ghosh’s unavailability through a tweet on its official social media account on X (formerly Twitter).

Harmanpreet Kaur retains India captaincy
In other news, talismanic Indian batsman Harmanpreet Kaur has retained her captaincy despite recent reports suggesting the BCCI could decide otherwise.
In a rare occurrence in recent years, India did not advance to the knockout stages of an ICC event. This setback has placed Harmanpreet, India’s captain since 2016, in a position of uncertainty regarding her leadership.
During Harmanpreet’s captaincy, the team has come close to glory on several occasions at the world level. Under his leadership, India consistently reached the knockout stages of numerous ICC tournaments, including a runners-up finish in the T20 World Cup 2020. Despite these good performances, the team has struggled to clinch a major title.
The recurring challenge of not being able to turn promising tournaments into championships has been a notable problem during her time as captain. With the pressure mounting and the next 50-over World Cup approaching, it seems that for now the BCCI has decided not to force any changes and let Harmanpreet take the reins of captaincy.
