Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar raised the issue of the responsibility of the Indian coaching staff. He said that it is the responsibility of the coaches to help the players when they are repeating their mistakes.
“If hitters make the same mistakes over and over again, you have to wonder what happened to your technique. How have you tried to improve the mass? Have you tried telling him, maybe taking a different guard? Don’t take a protector for the leg stump, take a protector for the middle and outside of the stump.” Gavaskar told The Indian Express Idea Exchange.

I remember once calling Virender Sehwag out of the blue – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar further recalled an interesting incident involving legendary batsman Virender Sehwag. The 73-year-old said he once told Sehwag to take a guard off the stump when he was struggling to function. According to Gavaskar, such input should come from the team’s coaches.

“I remember once calling Virender Sehwag out of the blue. He hadn’t been scoring too many runs. I said, ‘Viru, just try the protector off the stump.’ So he asked, ‘Why, Sunny bhai?’ So I said to him, ‘Look, you’re not known for your great footwork. What happens is that sometimes when you go out, you look for delivery and that makes things difficult for you. So maybe if you take stump protection, you know right away that the ball is out of the stump. That is where the coach can come in with his inputs,” Sunil Gavaskar further said.
