The pacemaker will undergo scans tomorrow to determine the full extent of the injury.

Gerald Coetzee, the medical team will have to do their best – Don’t insult

The Proteas team will be hoping Coetzee makes a quick recovery as they have already lost the services of all-rounder Wiaan Mulder.

He had fractured his right middle finger on Day 2 of the Durban test and was ruled out of the series. Speaking after registering a dominant 233-run victory in the first Test, Temba Bavuma spoke about the injury problems in the team. He stated:

“Wiaan is out of the series, [and] We have to find a replacement. [For] Gerald Coetzee, the medical team will do the best they can.”

With the victory over Sri Lanka, the Proteas jumped to second place in the ICC World Test Championship standings and Temba Bavuma said reaching the final is their main goal. He stated:

“That’s probably one of our goals as a team (to get to the WTC final). I told the guys coming into the series that we need to focus internally on what we can do and let the external things take care of themselves. “Looking to the future (second test) and let’s hope the weather behaves.”

Temba is at his best when his back is against the wall – Shukri Conrad

During the press conference, Shukri Conrad praised Temba Bavuma for his sensational performance with the bat in Durban. Notably, the Proteas skipper led from the front and scored 70 and 113 runs. Conrado explained:

“Temba is at his best when his back is against the wall and he needs to stand up. He was exceptional in this match. Those 70 went a long way in giving us something respectable to bowl. Last night I whispered to him in a loud voice. low that I thought these were his best hundred.”
