KKR ready to release Andre Russell, Shreyas Iyer and Mitchell Starc
In a shocking move, KKR are likely to release their star players Andre Russell and captain Shreyas Iyer ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline, reports ESPNcricinfo. Both players played a key role in KKR’s title triumph last season and it is quite shocking news for fans to see them being released.
Iyer was KKR’s most expensive player in the IPL 2022 mega auction as they bought him for INR 12.25 crore. Russell was also their top retainer for INR 12 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and has been with KKR since 2014.
As far as Cricxtasy had learned, Russell was supposed to be KKR’s top retention but a few things have changed in the last few days. Expect more updates as last-minute decisions could still be made regarding Russell’s retention.
Apart from the duo, KKR is also likely to part ways with Mitchell Starc, who they bought for a whopping sum of INR 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. As far as retentions are concerned, KKR is likely to retain Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh.
SRH finalizes five retentions: Heinrich Klaasen is the first choice
As reported by Cricxtasy earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad have already finalized their retentions. They have gone for five retentions in Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Klaasen is his top retainer for INR 23 crore, Pat Cummins is his second retainer for INR 18 crore, while Head and Abhishek were retained for INR 14 crore.
Nitish, on the other hand, decided to stay with them for just INR 6 crore. Although he could have earned more at auctions, it shows his loyalty to the franchise. SRH will enter the auction with an RTM as they have not retained any uncapped players.
Nicholas Pooran to lead LSG in IPL 2025: KL Rahul released
Nicholas Pooran has already signed a deal with Lucknow Super Giants as their primary retainer for IPL 2025. He is also set to lead them when KL Rahul leaves the franchise. Rahul’s move away from LSG could be seen during the IPL 2024 season following his dispute with RPSG owner Sanjiv Goenka on national television. It was only a matter of time before he left the franchise.
Apart from Pooran, it is learned that LSG retains pace sensation Mayank Yadav and spinner Ravi Bishnoi. The order of their withholdings and their values are not yet known. Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni are two other players who LSG will keep as uncapped players.
Virat Kohli likely to return as RCB captain
Cricxtasy cannot confirm this information yet, but many other sources including the Times of India are reporting that Virat Kohli will return as RCB captain in IPL 2025.
This could have large scale implications on the retention plans of RCB and other teams as otherwise RCB would have been looking for a captain. Kohli resigned from the captaincy in IPL 2021 but remains a leader on the field for them and also the face of the franchise. He also won the Orange Cap last season, accumulating 741 races.
