England gave a good fight to India in the second T20i

The visitors were invited to bat first in the second game after losing the toss. Jos Buttler once again led from the front with the bat, while the other batsmen struggled to get going.

England eventually managed to post 165/9 on the board despite no batsman playing a big knock as almost everyone found small but impactful contributions.

Defending the total, England’s bowlers brought out their best and troubled the Indian batsmen right from the start. They picked up wickets at regular intervals and took the match to the last.

The visitors, however, could not dismiss Tilak Varma, who played an exceptional knock of 72* runs and handed England their second defeat in the series.

It was a great game – Jos Buttler

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Jos Buttler praised Tilak Varma for his heroics and said he took the game away from England. He said:

“It was a great game. Full credit to Tilak for getting them to the line. We created a lot of chances, really aggressive, we pushed them really close.”

Jos Buttler further said that he was happy with his team’s performance with the bat and hoped the players would improve their game.

“Really pleased with the way we passed with the bat. We lost a few wickets but the aggression was there. Really happy with the style we played. Lots of positives. The way Jamie Smith played was fantastic. We can always improve and we “They’re happy with the style,” said Jos Buttler.

How did England perform in the 1st T20i against India in Kolkata?

England suffered a crushing defeat in the 1st T20i against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, losing by seven wickets with 43 balls to spare. Despite a solid performance from Captain Jos Buttler, his overall batting and bowling effort was poor.

Batting first, England managed to post a sub-par total of 132 runs in their 20 overs. Jos Buttler was the standout performer with a brilliant 68 off 44 balls, showing his class with eight fours and two sixes.

However, he received little support from the rest of the lineup. Phil Salt, Ben Duckett and Liam Livingstone fell cheaply, unable to handle India’s disciplined bowling.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy (3/23) spun a net around England’s middle order, while Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh chimed in with two wickets each.

Defending 132, England’s bowling attack struggled to make early gains. Although Jofra Archer bowled effectively, picking up two wickets including Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav, the rest of the bowlers were expensive.

Abhishek Sharma’s humorous knock of 79 off 34 balls dashed England’s hopes of a comeback as his batting left the bowlers with no answers.
