The Green Park curator has confirmed that the pitch for the second Test between India and Bangladesh will be ideal for a five-day match.
Shiv Kumar on Wednesday said the wicket is expected to provide bounce to the fast bowlers and assistance to the spinners at different stages of the match.
The Rohit Sharma-led team began the two-match Test series with a 280-run win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The match concluded in the first session of the fourth day. Team India will look to assert their authority in the second Test and complete a clean sweep in Kanpur.
The second match of the series will be played at Green Park in Kanpur, starting on Friday, September 27.
The ground staff was rumoured to have prepared two pitches in Kanpur. RevSportz reported that captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir will choose the pitch they want to play on.
There will be a party feeling in Chennai – Kanpur Curator Shiv Kumar
Chief curator of Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Shiv Kumar, said the pitch for the second Test could be similar to the one used in the first Test in Chennai.
Kumar added that the pacers will benefit from the bounce in the first few sessions, while the spinners will come into play in the final three days.
“There will be a match feel in Chennai. There will be something for everyone. There will be bounce in the first two sessions and it will be quite good batting for the first two days. Then the bowlers will come into play in the last three days,” curator Shiv Kumar told PTI.
The upcoming Test match in Kanpur marks a return to the venue after three years, with the last match being played against New Zealand in November 2021.
Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel put up a tough battle for the final wicket. The match ended in a draw as the pitch did not deteriorate as expected.
They decided to use as little plastic as possible: stadium director Sanjay Kapur
The Green Park pitch was prepared using black soil from Kali Mitti village. This type of soil is known to favour bowlers and is expected to create low and slow playing conditions.
An official of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association said that the soil is tested at the Indian Institute of Technology to ensure that it meets specific standards. The official added that this practice of using black soil from Kali Mitti is a long-standing tradition.
“We get this soil from the Indian Institute of Technology, a special soil which is located near a pond in Kali Mitti village. We have been doing the practice of bringing black soil from the village for years,” said a UPCA official.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has taken steps to minimise the use of plastic during the second Test match. They have banned the use of plastic plates for serving snacks at the stadium. Stadium director Sanjay Kapur stressed their commitment to making the match an eco-friendly event.
“This is a match that will be played at Green Park and we are trying hard to make it a ‘green’ match. We have decided to use as little plastic as possible,” said stadium director Sanjay Kapur.
