Kapil Dev announces the retirement date of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Former Indian national cricket team captain Kapil Dev has spoken about when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should retire from cricket. He said that if both the top-order batsmen stay fit, they can play as long as they want.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are undoubtedly two of the best cricketers that the Indian national cricket team has ever produced. What they have done for Indian cricket has been exceptional and for that, they have already earned the title of ‘legends of Indian cricket’.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the backbone of the Indian national cricket team for over the last decade. Irrespective of the format, they have maintained high standards and are two of the main reasons why the Indian team is the most dominant team in the cricket world.

It is fair to say that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are at the end of their careers and could hang up their boots soon. Both players have announced their retirement from T20Is and will now focus solely on ODIs and Test cricket for the Indian National Cricket Team.

Virat Kohli, 35, and Rohit Sharma, 36, even in their late 30s, are giving their best for the team in both the formats. They still hold the key for the team, and when they play well, there are very few chances of the Indian National Cricket Team ending up losing the game as they make sure that they win the game for the team.

The presence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is extremely crucial for the team as it is going through a transitional phase. Their experience is vital for the youngsters, who are currently taking the reins of the team. Players Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal and others look up to them and also help them a lot.

My mindset is to stay fit and keep playing as long as you enjoy the game – Kapil Dev on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement

Speaking about the retirement of two pioneers of Indian cricket, Kapil Dev said that the age between 26 and 34 is when players reach their peak. Citing the example of Ravi Shastri and Sachin Tendulkar, he said that after the age of 34, fitness plays a huge role in the longevity of players.

“In my opinion, the period between 26 and 34 years of age is the best time and from then on the physical condition of the players will ensure their longevity,”

“Ravi Shastri retired at a very young age, while Sachin Tendulkar was in charge for a longer period. So, everyone has to decide his lifestyle. My mindset is to stay fit and keep playing as long as I enjoy the game,” Kapil said on MyKhel.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are currently part of the Indian squad participating in the Test series against the Bangladesh national cricket team. They failed to make a name for themselves in the opening match and would be keen to do so in the second match in Kanpur, which will be played from September 27.
