Indian national cricket team star KL Rahul will be the stand-in wicketkeeper to Rishabh Pant in the upcoming second Test match against Bangladesh national cricket team. The final match of the series will be played at Green Park in Kanpur from September 27.
India have named their squad for the second Test match against the Bangladesh national cricket team, but not all the players will be available for the match. Indian players Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been named in the Rest of India squad for the upcoming Iran Cup match against Mumbai, scheduled to begin on October 1.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s statement mentioned that the participation of Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal will be subject to them not taking part in the second Test match against Bangladesh. They will most likely not be part of the national team as the team has a fixed combination.
Notably, Dhruv Jurel is unlikely to play in the second Test as Rishabh Pant made a grand return to Test cricket. The left-hander scored a sensational century in the second innings and helped his team win the first game of the series by a massive margin of 280 runs.
So, Dhruv Jurel is almost ready to take part in the Iran Cup match. This leaves the Indian team without a backup wicket-keeper in the squad. But the Indian National Cricket Team has already chalked out the plan for this for the upcoming second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
KL Rahul will be the substitute goalkeeper in the second Test against Bangladesh
According to PTI reports, it has been learnt that KL Rahul will be the stand-in wicket-keeper in the second Test against Bangladesh. He played the role for the team during the two-match Test series against the South Africa National Cricket Team, which took place in December-January 2023-24.
KL Rahul played a great role for the team with the gloves during the tour of South Africa. The right-hander did not make any mistakes and took brilliant catches behind the stumps. And that did not affect his batting either as he also hit a fantastic century for the team in the first game of the series.
KL Rahul played as a pure batsman in the first game against Bangladesh. He batted in the middle order but looked blocked at the crease. In the first innings, he scored 16 runs off 52 balls but played freely in the second innings. He made an unbeaten 22 runs off 19 balls with 4 boundaries before India declared the innings.
KL Rahul would be keen to make a massive impact in the second innings with the bat. Ahead of the Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team and the Australia National Cricket Team, the right-hander would be a vital cog for his team in the middle order.
India won the first match of the series against Bangladesh by a huge margin of 280 runs. The team is eager to continue its good form and win the second match to complete the 2-0 thrashing in the series.
