Look: 121 meters! Hilton Cartwright puts the ball into orbit with six GIANTS in BBL

Australia and Melbourne Stars batsman Hilton Cartwright, 32, stunned the cricket world with his absolutely mammoth six on Saturday, January 4.

Hilton Cartwright smashed his huge maximum off the delivery of 30-year-old all-rounder Tom Rogers during the 23rd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Star at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Hilton Cartwright leads Melbourne Stars to epic victory

Melbourne Stars won the toss and invited Melbourne Renegades to bat first. The Stars bowling unit did a good job overall and managed to restrict the opposition to 168/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target, Stars lost three quick wickets but Ben Duckett stabilized the innings with his brilliant fifty while Marcus Stoinis scored a brilliant 48 runs that kept Melbourne Stars in the game.

After that, Glenn Maxwell and Hilton Cartwright took charge, and with 10 runs required in the last over, the latter scored a six and a monster four to seal a 5-wicket win.

On the third ball of the 20th over, Tom Rogers attempted to bowl a yorker outside off stump but missed by a shade. Cartwright stayed back and hit the ball with all his power for a huge six.

The ball went straight to the second level for a long time and, seeing it fly, even Cartwright was surprised when it formed an ‘O’ in his mouth. The crowd went wild after the hit and after a few minutes it was revealed that Hilton Cartwright had smashed a 121m six.

Three times more than I hit: Ben Duckett on Hilton Cartwright’s six

Ben Duckett was awarded Player of the Match for his 67 runs off 49 balls, and speaking after the match, he praised Hilton Cartwright and Glenn Maxwell for their fireworks in the final overs that helped the Melbourne Stars to a victory. He elaborated:

“It was tough at the beginning, I actually got stuck in and wanted to be there at the end. It wasn’t to be, but luckily they (Cartwright and Maxwell) came in. That’s the strength in depth we have. We know we always have that and we wanted to go deeper. Stoinis played very well, he took all the pressure off me.

While talking about Hilton Cartwright’s huge six, Ben Duckett said that the batsman has exceptional skills and practices hitting big maximums in the nets. He stated:

“(On the Cartwright six in the last over and how big it was) Three times as far as I hit (smiles). Coming in, trying to hit a four and a six on this wicket, exceptional skills and very grateful they could do it. In the nets , he (Cartwright?) is hitting them really far and I’m really glad we got it today.”

Ben Duckett further spoke about his batting plans and said that he is sticking to his strengths and added that he does not consider his BBL stint as practice for the Ashes in Australia. He stated:

“Take out the ego, I can’t do some things that the big guys do and try to stick to what I can. Luckily, I was able to get the sweeps. (On the Ashes in Australia) There is still a long way to go. Try to focus on what’s in front of me (on the Stars’ playoff hopes). We’ve played good cricket, we haven’t done it all the way. It was the same tonight, but winning games like that is very important in the competitions we maintain.” Come on, hold this momentum, we will continue to believe.
