Records were broken in the 31st match of the 2024-25 Big Bash League between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat. The Strikers put a huge score on the board after being put up to bat first.

Captain Matthew Short led from the front and played blind. He scored 109 off 54 balls with 10 fours and 7 sixes, recording the fastest ton by an Adelaide Strikers batsman. On the other hand, it was an unforgettable night for the Brisbane Heat bowlers. They conceded over 250 runs in the innings and conceded the second highest BBL score in the history of the tournament.

Unwanted record for Brisbane Heat in BBL

It happened for the first time in the history of the Big Bash League that every bowler conceded more than 40 runs in an innings. Brisbane Heat captain Colin Munro used five bowlers.

All the players bowled four overs each, while three of them conceded 50 or more runs in their spell. Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann was the pick of the bowlers and finished with 3-50 in his four overs.

Fast bowlers Michael Neser and Xavier Bartlett finished with identical figures of 0-53 in four overs. Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson bowled well and finished with 2-41, while left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson had figures of 0-45 in his spell.

Adelaide Strikers achieve new milestone in BBL

Adelaide Strikers scored 251-5 in the allotted 20 overs, which is the second highest score in the history of the Big Bash League. The record for highest BBL score is still held by the Melbourne Stars, who scored against Hobart Hurricanes on 19 January 2022.

They beat the Sydney Thunder’s score of 232-2 against the Sydney Sixers on January 22, 2021. Matthew Short played blindside and led from the front. Chris Lynn and Alex Ross complemented them well with outstanding shots.

Brilliant performance by Adelaide Strikers in BBL match

Meanwhile, it was a brilliant batting performance from Adelaide Strikers who made the most of the good batting conditions at Adelaide Oval. Captain Matthew Short smashed a blistering century, while Chris Lynn scored 47 off 20 balls while opening the batting.

Lynn hit 5 fours and 3 sixes during his knock. Short and Lynn scored 121 runs in just 8.5 overs while batting first. Alex Ross played blindly in the order and hit 44 off 19 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

In response, the Brisbane Heat started well but the score was too big for them. Their batsmen started but couldn’t continue to get a big score. Nathan McSweeney played an excellent knock of 43 off 24 balls with 4 fours and 1 six, while Matt Renshaw hit 34 off 16 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes.
