Mohammed Shami ready to return to New Zealand Tests, BCCI official confirms

Indian National Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Shami is on track to return to the team. According to reports in the Times of India, it is learned that the fast bowler could make an international comeback through the upcoming Test series against the New Zealand national cricket team.

Mohammed Shami has reportedly been working hard at BCCI’s newly inaugurated NCA, which is called Center of Excellence. The fast bowler is trying his best to get fit and the governing body is targeting the New Zealand Tests for his return to cricket after a while.

A senior BCCI official confirmed the development and said that it is under the watchful eye of the governing body. He also mentioned that the fast bowler has made good progress. Speaking to the Times of India, he explained:

“Shami’s rehabilitation is on track. New Testing in Zealand remains a realistic goal. “He is under the watchful eye of BCCI specialists and is making very good progress.”

There were reports that Mohammed Shami was all set to return to the Indian team through the Bangladesh Tests. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided not to rush it. The series recently concluded with the Indian national cricket team winning the series by a margin of 2-0.

On Wednesday (October 2) there was news that almost scared almost all the Indian fans. Mohammed Shami is learned to have suffered knee inflammation and could miss the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia, Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

However, the fast bowler rubbished the rumours, saying the reports were baseless and he is trying his best to make a comeback. He also urged people not to trust fake news as he posted a bold message on his Twitter account.

Mohammed Shami in line to be fit for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

But new reports claim that Mohammed Shami is also fit to be fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India will tour Australia for the five-match Test series in November, December and January. If he is fit, he will be extremely vital for his team heading into the series. India have won the last two series and would be keen to complete the hat-trick of wins in Australia.

Shami has been out of action since the end of the ICC World Cup 2023. He faced an ankle injury during the tournament and subsequently underwent surgery. Since then, he has been working hard in the NCA and has also returned to bowling in the nets.

Previously, there were reports claiming that Mohammed Shami had been included among the 31 likely members of Bengal’s squad for the Ranji Trophy 2025. The fast bowler could feature in Bengal’s first game against Uttar Pradesh starting October 11 before returning to the Indian team.
