Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers lavished high praise on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said the wicketkeeper-batsman is like a diesel engine that it never stops.

MS Dhoni’s legacy in the Indian Premier League is unmatched. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been the legend of the game and the kind of impact he has had on the league is unmatched. The Chennai Super Kings skipper has achieved almost everything and is still going strong.

MS Dhoni has turned Chennai Super Kings into a dominant force in the IPL. He has guided the team to all five league titles and is the most successful captain of the tournament along with Rohit Sharma, who captained Mumbai from 2013 to 2023 in the league.

MS Dhoni will captain the Chennai Super Kings in the league in the upcoming edition of the league. Although he is 40 years old, he is as fit as any youngster, there is a chance that he will end his career after IPL 2024. There were a lot of rumors about it last year, but he went out of his way for the fans.

AB de Villiers, while talking about Chennai Super Kings, stated that they played incredible cricket last year. He hailed the keeper-batsman as an incredible player, what an incredible captain and gave his opinion on his future. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

“Last year they played some incredible cricket. There were many rumors about MS Dhoni calling it quits last year, but that was not the case, ladies and gentlemen. He would come back again. Will this be his last season? Nobody knows. It just seems to be this diesel engine that never ends. He keeps running. What an incredible player, what an incredible captain.”

AB de Villiers further added that the presence of MS Dhoni, the mind of Stephen Fleming and the senior players make them an intimidating team to play against. He added:

“I think it’s thanks to his presence, thanks to the leadership of MSD, a calm coach like Stephen Fleming, veteran players like Ravi[ndra] Jadeja and others who have given life to this incredible culture. They are a very intimidating team to play against. “They are never easy to beat.”

There is almost no pressure on MS Dhoni and his troops – AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers further pointed out why Chennai Super Kings are the successful unit in the IPL. He highlighted that the MS Dhoni-led team always finds a way to compete.

He added that although CSK would want to defend the title, there would be no pressure on them. He explained:

“That’s always a great characteristic of a very successful unit, of a very successful franchise. When you play well, you say, ‘Yeah, no problem, no one’s going to stop us,’ but when you don’t play that well, they always find a way to compete.

“They won last year. Yes, they want to defend their title, but there is almost no pressure on MSD and their troops and I think that makes them dangerous. Can they go in a row? “They certainly have the capacity.”

Chennai Super Kings will play the first tournament of IPL 2024. They will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk Stadium on March 22.
