New LSG recruit lights up SMAT with career-best bowling numbers

He boasts of brilliant numbers in the shortest format, which sparked Lucknow’s interest in the auction.

A new signing from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) justified his purchase with a stellar display in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

23-year-old Yuvraj Chaudhary, who was bought by LSG in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction for INR 30 lakhs, posted career-best figures during the match between Uttarakhand and Sikkim.

The batting all-rounder finished with figures of 4/15 and was also named Player of the Match.

While he impressed with his bowling skills, interestingly it was Chaudhary’s batting that sparked the interest of the Lucknow-based franchise in the auction. Yuvraj has impressive statistics in the shortest format, scoring 385 runs in 12 matches at an average of 48.12 and a striking strike rate of 154.61, including one century and two half-centuries.

In the Ranji Trophy, he is currently his team’s second highest run-scorer, amassing 497 runs in 10 innings at an average of 49.70, with one century and two fifties.

LSG causes a stir by acquiring Rishabh Pant

Talking about LSG’s signings in the IPL 2025 auction, they spent a whopping INR 27 crore to make Rishabh Pant the most expensive player in IPL history.

To replace Marcus Stoinis, they bought Mitchell Marsh for INR 3.40 crore. His next offer was Avesh Khan, getting him for INR 9.75 crores. They also bought big hitters Abdul Samad for INR 4.20 crore and David Miller for INR 7.50 crore.

Earlier, the Sanjiv Goenka-owned team had retained Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan.

It will be interesting to see who LSG will hand over the captaincy given they have the likes of Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran in the ranks, although the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman looks the favorite for the job.
