Nitish Kumar Reddy reveals how Gambhir’s mid-game tips helped him play sensational T20I knock against Bangladesh

He opened up following the advice he received from Gambhir during the second T20I, where he hit his first T20I fifty.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, India’s latest sensation, has enjoyed a great season this year. After a stellar performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he made his debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this month.

Now, thanks to his talent and brilliant performances, he has been included in India’s squad for the much-awaited five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy, starting next month.

While Reddy has increased his stock with his consistent display, the 21-year-old opened up on the imperative advice he received from coach Gautam Gambhir during the second T20I against Bangladesh, where he hit his first T20I fifty.

In just his second T20I appearance, Nitish Kumar Reddy came into bat at number four and rescued the team from a difficult position after they were struggling at 41/3 in 5.3 overs. Reddy reached his first international fifty with an impressive innings, scoring 74 runs off 34 balls, including four fours and seven sixes.

Nitish Kumar Reddy reveals crucial advice from Gautam Gambhir during Bangladesh T20Is

In a chat with HT, the talented youngster revealed what Gambhir had told him during the knock that helped his mindset to play a big knock.

Reddy says, “At first it was nothing. They told me to play aggressively. The kind of approach I showed in IPL, they told me to follow the same approach, the same mentality, everything. Just play according to the situation. I still remember during the drinks break when Gautam Sir came in and I played reverse sweep, I needed a DRS. When they didn’t give it because it was the referee’s decision, he came to the center and told me: Nitish, you have good power. You can erase the boundary line easily. There is no need to reverse sweep on these types of wickets because the ball stays low.”

“He told me to back up my power. So I just backed up my power and the rest of the things went great. The over thrown by the roulette wheel worked very well for me at that time.”
