PAKISTAN FORM: A TYPICAL PAKISTAN PERFORMANCE

It has been a nightmare start for Pakistan to this tournament and a defeat in this game would see them eliminated from the competition. They are already reliant on net run rate in order to squeeze through after beginning with a super over loss to the United States in an all-time upset before then losing to arch-rivals India in a game they were well on top in and really should have clinched.

LAST FIVE: LLLAL

CANADA FORM: STILL WITH A CHANCE

Canada began their campaign with a fairly comprehensive loss to the aforementioned impressive United States but they recovered very well to defeat full member nation Ireland in their second match by 12 runs the other day. The Canadians posted a score of 137-7 with Nicholas Kirton scoring 49 of those before defending it quite comfortably in the end.

LAST FIVE: WLAWL

PAKISTAN BETTING ANALYSIS

Despite their defeat to India, as coach Gary Kirsten said, Pakistan played the better cricket for 35 of the 40 overs and that is arguably true. A lot of that was down to the impressive work of both Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, who both picked up 3-21 in their bowling innings. Given the fact that Canada have lost 12 wickets in this tournament but only two of those have been to spin then backing Shah (9/2) or Rauf (4/1) to be the best home bowler in the match seems a good bet.

As for the bat, Mohammad Rizwan needs to step up to the plate a bit. The experienced opener is known for his gung-ho play and attitude but the keeper-bat threw his wicket and, with it, the game away against India. He will be determined to put things right back at the same ground in what should be a partisan crowd and him to top score for Pakistan (11/4) or even in the match (9/2) will be worth backing.

CANADA BETTING ANALYSIS

In their opening match of the tournament down in Texas, Canada posted what appeared to be a decent score of 194 but the USA managed it at a canter in 17.3 overs. Despite four of their six bowlers going at over ten an over, key man Dillon Heyliger kept his end together with 1-19 and he packed that up by taking 2-18 against Ireland. If Pakistan are to stumble once again then Heyliger will have to be the man to provoke it for Canada and him to be their best bowler (4/1) is likely.

Aaron Johnson is yet to really turn up to the party for Canada but the current form of Shaheen Afridi will likely be his best chance to get away in this group stage as they face India next. Afridi’s batting has improved but the left-armer went for 1-29 in a low scoring game against the Indians the other day and also struggled with 0-33 in the defeat to the USA. Another wayward and ineffective spell from the pacer could allow Johnson to be Canada’s best batter in the match (7/2).

PAKISTAN VS CANADA EXPERT PREDICTION

As we creep over the half-way stage of the groups, it is now must win territory for both of these sides – but even more so, Pakistan. Canada will know a victory means they head into the clash with India in a few days with a chance of qualification, albeit against India, whilst Pakistan will be out if they lose. Pakistan need to win and win well in order to boost their NRR and, despite Canada’s impressive win the other day, surely they will.
