Kaif, who had played three editions of the Champions Trophy, including 2002, where India shared the trophy with Sri Lanka, felt that the inclusion of Varun will scare the Australians.
“Varun Chakravarthy … What story. Without Wickt in 3 games during the 2021 T20 World Cup, he fell for 3 years, returning in Dubai, sits for 2 games and now a tour of five wickt plus mom in his second hate. Varun will surely play semifinals. In any way, India loses the opportunity to psyche to the Australians,” Kaif wrote in an X.
Kumble says that India should continue playing four spinners in the semifinal of Champions Trophy 2025
The legendary leg spinner and former chief coach of India, Anil Kumble, also praised Varun after his winning performance of the party.
“I think that Varun has been exceptional in the last 1-1.5 years, constantly winning matches for the team for which he has played, whether Tamil Nadu or Kkr or for India in T20is. And now, today, to have an opportunity, because obviously India had already qualified,” Kumble said on the day of the Espncricinfo match.
Kumble hit India’s strategy to play four spinners in the semifinal against Australia that will be played in Dubai on Tuesday. India went with that strategy against New Zealand playing Ravindra Jadaja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun.
“And if this is the type of launch in which India will continue to play in Dubai, then this four -pointed rotating attack would really be a challenge for any team. Australia would be extremely difficult to maneuver these four spinners, ”said Kumble.
India ended the best of group A after beating Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand. In the second semifinal in Lahore on Wednesday, New Zealand will face South Africa.
