Ravichandran Ashwin won the Man of the Match award in the first Test between IND and BAN for his incredible batting and bowling performance in the match. After winning the award, Ashwin said that batting is something that comes naturally to him.

Ravichandran Ashwin put up an impressive show with both bat and bowling to emerge as a clear contender to win the Player of the Year award in the Test match between India and Bangladesh. The right-handed batsman scored a 113-run century in the first innings to help India post a powerful total.

He did not get any wicket in the first innings but bounced back in the second. The right-arm bowler captured 6 wickets in the second innings to help India defeat the Bangladeshi batsmen.

Batting comes naturally to me: Ravichandran Ashwin

After winning the Man of the Match award for his thrilling performance with the bat and ball, Ravichandran Ashwin said that batting is something that comes naturally to him. He also thanked Ravindra Jadeja for supporting him while batting.

“Every time I play in Chennai, I get an amazing feeling. I have watched many Test and international cricket matches sitting in those stands. I am probably enjoying my game for what I am doing,” the right-handed batsman said.

“It was an opportunity to fight and try my best. I kept it simple, I have to thank Jadeja who helped me. It was a very special knock, I didn’t really get it until the second day,” added the Indian all-rounder.

“I bowl for a living. Bowling comes first. Batting is something that comes naturally to me. Over the last few years I have tried to compartmentalise,” Ashwin added.

India beats Bangladesh by 280 runs

Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test. Batting first, India amassed 376-10 in the first innings with a century from Ashwin and 86 from Ravindra Jadeja.

They later defeated Bangladesh for just 149 with a total of 4 wickets. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant helped India score 287-4 in the second innings with their respective centuries.

India held Bangladesh to a mammoth total of 515 in the final innings. The visitors could do nothing and were bowled out for just 234 runs in the final innings, losing the game by 280 runs.

With the win, India also retained their top spot in the 2023-25 ​​ICC World Test Championship points table. India has a winning percentage of 71+ and occupies the top position in the table.

They will play one more Test match against Bangladesh in the ongoing series. The second India vs Bangladesh 2024 Test match starts on September 27 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
