KL Rahul’s entry into the IPL 2025 auction pool may spark a bidding war.
While there were initial reports of KL Rahul and Lucknow Super Giants parting ways, it is now learned that the dynamic India batsman was actually set to get the top retention offer but turned it down citing “professional and personal reasons”.
Earlier in August, KL Rahul met with LSG owner Sanji Goenka, sparking rumors that he would stay with the franchise after a very public fight between the duo during last season (IPL 2024).
Despite all the efforts, it was finally revealed that LSG and Rahul were ready to part ways.
Speaking about the development, a reliable source told TOI, “LSG was ready to offer top retention support to Rahul but Rahul finally decided to move on due to personal and professional reasons.”

KL Rahul expected to be a hot commodity at IPL 2025 auction
Now that Rahul is set to enter the IPL 2025 auction pool, it is expected to spark a bidding war between franchises with many teams looking for an Indian player who can take up captaincy responsibilities.
Rahul has captained LSG for three seasons, leading them to the playoffs twice and finishing in seventh place last season.
However, Rahul, who did not feature in India’s T20 World Cup triumph in June, brings significant experience to the format, having played 72 T20 internationals and amassed 2,265 runs at an average of 37.75.
Talking about LSG retentions, Nicholas Pooran will be the franchise’s top retention, along with pace sensation Mayank Yadav and spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Also, LSG will keep Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni as uncapped players. Details about the sequence of their retention and their respective values are not yet known.
