The referees found an illegal bat by Sunil Narine during the last match of the Kolkata Knight Riders against Punjab Kings (Pbks) in Mullanpur last night. When Narine was ready to hit, the referee used the same caliber that was used in previous matches.
When the bat entered the meter, he could not pass cleanly and was trapped halfway, which led the referee to verify it again. After multiple attempts, the bat did not clear the gadget, which means that the dimension of the Narine willow exceeded the established limit.
He was unhappy and argued with the referee, who tested at Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s bat, who passed the measure. Consequently, Narine could not use his initial bat and had to change it before coming as a starter.

The left -hander did not enjoy a great exit with the willow, scoring only five races in four deliveries, including a limit, before leaving the first on itself. While it is unknown if Narine was using an illegal bat in previous matches, this new batification rule of bats finally proved to be an fruitful exercise, coincidentally against a batter whose batting has been surprisingly good to accept from IPL 2024.

Even Anrich Nortje was convicted of using an illegal bat that did not pass the measurement device in the same game. Consequently, he had to ask for a bat change, which was also examined before allowing him to continue.
Then, two kkr batters, including a starter, would have used unauthorized bats if the referee would not have reviewed it. It is unknown if the duo did it intentionally, but there may be cases in which batters deliberately use a thicker bat to generate more power in the shots.
Even Dale Steyn made an interesting publication during the game last night, praising this new rule that verifies the dimensions of bats. Although he did not explicitly mention it, the Speedster de Proteas indicated that batters could be using illegal bats previously, and the impact of bat verification is visible on the score card.
Although there have been some great scores in IPL 2025, the general score rate is not as imposing as last season, when 200 were violated in any other game. Lifting the prohibition of saliva is a factor, but verifying the dimensions of bats could also be a contributing factor, since two players have no longer found without forming despite knowing about the rule in advance.
