India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami did not hold back while responding to former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar’s comments regarding the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Shami, who was released by the Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction, returned to competitive cricket last week after a year-long break due to a knee injury.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar noted that while teams are likely to take interest in Mohammed Shami during the IPL auction, his injury history could raise concerns. Shami recently spent a considerable amount of time recovering from an injury, which puts his fitness for next season in doubt.
Manjrekar explained that if a franchise invests heavily in Shami and he suffers another injury mid-season, they may have difficulty replacing him. This potential risk of losing Shami during the season could result in a decrease in his auction value.
“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history, with this recent one taking a significant amount of time to recover, there is always a concern about a possible breakdown during the season,” Manjrekar had said on Star Sports .
“If a franchise invests a lot and then loses it mid-season, its options become limited. This concern could cause a drop in its price,” he added.

Shami responds fiercely to Manjrekar’s comments on auction
In response, Shami shared a screenshot of a post featuring Manjrekar’s take on the possible drop in his auction price. Clearly upset by the comment, Shami responded sarcastically, suggesting that Manjrekar should save some of his wisdom for his own future and joking that anyone who wanted to know the future should meet him directly.
“Baba ki jai hoooooo. Sanjay G, if you save a little knowledge for your future, will it help you? If someone knows the future, he has to meet the lord,” Shami wrote.
Mohammed Shami last played for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. After that, he struggled with fitness issues and underwent Achilles surgery earlier this year, which kept him out of cricket for an extended period.
Due to his recovery, Shami missed the 2024 IPL and the 2024 T20 World Cup. He was expected to return for the Test series against Bangladesh but could not recover in time. A swelling in his knee also ruled him out of the New Zealand Tests and he was ultimately not selected for India’s five-match Test series against Australia.
