This is a renewed version of the now missing Champions League T20 (CLT20), which operated from 2009 to 2014.
As the popularity of the T20 leagues continues to grow, the Cricket Board of England (ECB) is looking to present the World Club Championship. This is a renewed version of the now missing Champions League T20 (CLT20), which operated from 2009 to 2014.
According to Espncricinfo, the idea and planning are still in the early stages, but the ECB is interested in relaunching something similar to CLT20. CLT20 was led by BCCI, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa, while the England team participated only for the first four editions due to a clash with the County Championship.
“That is in the cards. Without a doubt, at some point, there will be a world club championship for both men and women. That is the next logical step,” exclaimed Richard Gould, executive director of the ECB.
If the tournament occurs, England will be represented by the winners of the hundred, not by the T20 explosion. The hundred is the last franchise competition in England, and although it differs from the T20 format, more English and local players participate in this compared to the T20 explosion.
Champions League T20 was suspended due to a limited audience
When the T20 of the Champions League began in 2009, it generated broad interest and obtained a lucrative transmission agreement. Unfortunately, the exaggeration did not last long, and the tournament had to be discontinued due to a limited audience.

However, more nations have launched their own T20 leagues, which will definitely make the World Club championship more competitive and popular. This includes the hundred of England, SA20 of South Africa, the T20 International League (ILT20) of the EAU and Major League Cricket (MLC) of the United States.
Guyana already launched a Global Super League last year, which has five teams of several T20 leagues. Except Rangpur Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors, this edition of the tournament will have Big Bash League, Super Smash and ILT20 champions.
The biggest problem will be to find an adequate window for the competition in a full Crickt calendar, where the T20 leagues are executed throughout the year. With more and more tournaments of this type, the room for something like the World Club Championship will be arduous to find, even if all Cricket boards show interest.
