Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is currently enjoying his time off from cricket. This comes after the Men in Blue won the 2024 T20 World Cup under his leadership in Barbados by beating South Africa in the final on June 29.
Rohit Sharma was the main reason for India’s success in the 2024 T20 World Cup as he captained the team brilliantly and also led from the front. Throughout the tournament, he was at the top order and helped India win the title and end the title drought after 11 years.
Rohit Sharma was vital as captain of the team as under his leadership India did not lose a single match. They won all their matches and went on to win the tournament, becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing a single match in the tournament. They beat South Africa by 7 runs in the final.
Rohit Sharma was also at the top of his game with the bat. He was the leading run-scorer for the Indian national cricket team as he scored 257 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 156.70. His highest score came in the game against Australia in the Super 8 stage where he scored 92 runs.
However, after that tournament, fans were treated to a sad story of Rohit Sharma retiring from T20I cricket. The opening batsman said that there was no better time to bid adieu to the format as he always wanted to win the trophy and bid adieu to the format.
With Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the T20I format, this has also raised a lot of doubts in the minds of fans regarding his future in Tests and ODIs. However, the India captain has now made a strong statement regarding his future for the team.
During the launch of his Cricket Academy in the United States of America, Rohit Sharma said that he has not decided anything about his future but will be staying for a while. He stated, “I just said it, I don’t look that far into the future. So, clearly, you will see me playing for a while.”
Rohit Sharma finished his T20I career as the all-time leading run-scorer with 4231 runs. The captain finished with five hundreds, the most by a batsman in T20I cricket. He also hit 32 fifties and had a run strike rate of 140.
