Former Indian national cricket team player Robin Uthappa has shared his opinion on whether Rohit Sharma played the last Test of his career or not. He believes that the team captain will get a befitting send-off and will also play the next series with the team.
Rohit Sharma has come under massive scrutiny for his poor form of late in Test cricket. Since the start of the Test series against the Bangladesh national cricket team at home, the captain of the Indian national cricket team has failed to get going in every game. From that moment on, he has only managed to complete half a century.
Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued with the bat even in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he retires for the last game.
Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued with the bat even in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The captain of the Indian national cricket team failed to get going in the three matches he played, and that confidence was reflected in his leadership and he did not live up to it.
Rohit Sharma batted in the middle order for two games, and that move didn’t work out, but after that, he returned to the top in the Melbourne Test. However, he still couldn’t get going and eventually took the tough call and then decided to withdraw from the ongoing fifth Test, which is being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.
Rohit Sharma spoke to the media on the second day of the ongoing match and said that he has resigned from the team. He admitted that he tried all the things but things did not work in his favor and hence he decided to quit the ongoing game and handed over the leadership to Jasprit Bumrah.
Rohit will probably get a send-off there – Robin Uthappa
Since Rohit Sharma missed the match, there has been a lot of speculation whether the fast bowler played his last Test or not. But Robin Uthappa believes it won’t be the last game for the captain as he is the world cup winning captain. He stressed that he would receive a proper send-off. Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram account, he explained:
“People have [been] contemplating or speculating: ‘Will it be his last Test match? Won’t he play Test cricket again? In my opinion, I don’t think so. I think the next test series is six months away; Rohit will probably be dismissed there. “He’s a World Cup-winning captain.”
Yes, he has had a very bad year in Test cricket, but he has been a consistent performer: Robin Uthappa over Rohit Sharma.
Robin Uthappa added that people see the negative side of everything. He admitted that although the batsman is going through a rough patch, he has been a consistent performer for the team in other formats as well. He elaborated:
“With the intensities and defeats of this tournament, people see it in a negative light. Yes, he has had a very poor year in Test cricket, but he has been a consistent performer in other formats of the game, and I think I think that the legends of the game deserve a decent send-off.”
Rohit managed only 31 runs in the ongoing series at an average of around 6 in the series.
