Former Indian cricketer RP Singh revealed what Indian players do during rain breaks during the match. The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that most cricketers focus on doing their physical work.
RP Singh’s comments came during the rain stoppage in the ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh. The last match of the two-match Test series between the two teams began on Friday (September 27) at Green Park in Kanpur.
The ongoing test between India and Bangladesh has played a pivotal role. Almost two sessions were wiped out on day 1 of the game. If this was not enough, play was also suspended on Day 2 without a single ball being bowled, and both teams returned to the hotel from the beginning.
During the rain break, the Indian players were seen chatting among themselves, but some were involved in the game of foot volleyball. Ravichandran Ashwin along with Rishabh Pant were seen playing when the video was posted by commentator Dinesh Karthik on his social media.
Most players continue to do their physical work: RP Singh on what players do during rain break
While the players spent time in the locker room, RP Singh explained how the players spend their time. He mentioned that most players work on their fitness while trying to achieve their goals in the gym during this time off. Speaking to IANS, he explained:
“Most players continue to do their physical work even while sitting in the locker room. They continue to check all the boxes. Players typically try to reach their goals in the gym during this time off. Some do cardio, others focus on weights “Basically, try to use this period to complete any pending tasks.”
RP Singh also mentioned that during rain break, players also focus on their cricket. He mentioned that everyone is researching the game plans and revealed that during such situations, the strategies also change. He added:
“Cricket is their main focus and everyone is staying focused on the game plan. In such situations, strategies keep evolving with every passing minute,” RP Singh said.
Coming into the match, the Indian national cricket team won the toss and opted to participate. They had a decent outing with the ball as they did not let Bangladesh openers Shadman Islam (24) and Zakir Hasan through. Akash Deep hit the money with the ball when he removed both the openers in his first spell.
After that, Mominul Haque (40*) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (31) brought the team back into the game with their 51-run stand. Just before the rain break, Ravichandran Ashwin removed Shanto to bring his team back into the game.
Before the referee forced the players to return, Mushfiqur Rahim (6*), along with Haque, were in the area before rain forced the referees to call it off for the day. Bangladesh finished on 107/3 in 35 overs. India would hope to pick early wickets when play resumes on Day 3.
