Scotland’s national women’s cricket team has named a 15-strong squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024, to be played in the United Arab Emirates. Kathryn Bryce will lead the team, which will be participating in the tournament for the first time.
Captain Kathryn Bryce will be making a comeback to the team as she last played for the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup qualifier in May this year. She was the main reason the team qualified for the tournament as she scored 177 runs and also took 9 wickets.
Sarah Bryce, the captain’s sister, will be the vice-captain of the team at the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. Scotland have also included experienced leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood in the squad. The leg-spinner recently captained the team and guided them to victory in the Netherlands tri-series.
Scotland have a number of versatile players in the squad, including captain Kathryn Bryce, Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser and Megan McColl. They will be vital to the tournament and much will depend on how they contribute to the team with bat and ball.
Here is Scotland’s roster for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup:
Kathryn Bryce (c), Sarah Bryce (vc), Lorna Jack-Brown, Abbi Aitken-Drummond, Abtaha Maqsood, Saskia Horley, Chloe Abel, Priyanaz Chatterji, Megan McColl, Darcey Carter, Ailsa Lister, Hannah Rainey, Rachel Slater, Katherine Fraser, Olivia Bell.
The composition and balance of this team is exceptional: Scotland Women’s National Cricket Team Head Coach Craig Wallace
Scotland Women’s National Cricket Team Head Coach Craig Wallace spoke about the balance of the team and said they have been match-winners from start to finish. He highlighted the hard work put in by the players and stressed that the players they have chosen can win the World Cup. He added:
“The composition and balance of this team is exceptional. We have players who win games from start to finish, which I believe is the big difference in the evolution of this team during my short tenure.”
“People have been putting in crucial performances every time they step onto the pitch and that is transmitted to the whole team.
“While it was very difficult, it was also really nice to select this team, remembering a lot of those great performances, and we know that all 15 players can go out and win cricket matches for us in the World Cup.”
The head coach added that he is excited to see what lies ahead for the team and that they are confident of winning matches in the tournament.
“I’m really excited about what’s ahead. If we behave and play like we have over the last year, who knows what can happen at the World Cup – we could win every game we want.
“The players play a great brand of cricket and have a lot of confidence in themselves, so the possibilities are really limitless.”
Scotland are in Group B along with England, South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh and will be keen to make an impact in the tournament.
