In a tense moment during the first Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa, a humorous incident provided much-needed entertainment. Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud hit South Africa’s lower-order batsman Dane Piedt with a wild delivery amid a loose ball in the first innings.
Night hitters Wiaan Mulder and Kyle Verreynne started with a confident approach on the second day of the match. Wiaan Mulder and Kyle Verreynne added a 119-run stand for the seventh wicket in South Africa’s first innings. Both batsmen completed half-centuries against Bangladesh’s spin attack.
However, Hasan Mahmud took two crucial wickets by dismissing Mulder and Keshav Maharaj in consecutive balls. The away side were restricted to 227/8 before Dane Piedt joined Kyle Verreynne in the box. Before the lunch break on day 2, a funny mix-up with a comedy of errors took place.

The incident took place on the last ball of South Africa’s 69th innings. Hasan Mahmud bowled a low full delivery and Piedt pushed it towards the bowler. The ball deflected off Mahmud’s hand and hit the stumps on the non-striker’s side. Kyle Verreynne was well inside the box to survive.
However, Piedt ran for a single, but his teammate Verreynne remained in his area. The lower-order batsman rushed back to the striker’s side after realizing the miscommunication. Hasan Mahmud attempted a shot but hit Piedt in the thigh. The moment caught the attention of users on social media platforms.

On the second day, South Africa reinforced their dominance of the game with Verreynne scoring a brilliant century. South Africa managed to score a total of 308 and took a lead of 202 runs. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 106 runs in the first innings after winning the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was Bangladesh’s top scorer with 30 runs off 97 balls. Kagiso Rabada, Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj took three wickets each.
