Shaheen Afridi’s future with Pakistan team is in jeopardy as PCB plans to take strict action for misconduct

After taking action against the team management, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also reportedly set to take action against fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for misbehaving with the coaches.

According to Pakistani media reports, the former Pakistan T20I captain had misbehaved with coaches during the tours of Ireland and England in May. His misconduct was especially noticeable during a practice session at Headingley, England.

Cricket Pakistan reported that Shaheen Afridi and batting coach Mohammad Yousuf were involved in a verbal argument during the training session. It all started when Yousuf pointed out that the bowler was bowling too many off-spin balls.

Shaheen Afridi was not impressed with Yousuf’s comments and replied, “Let me practice for now and don’t talk in between.” This led to a heated confrontation between the two. After the incident, Shaheen Afridi was reprimanded by the team management and had to apologize to Yousuf in front of the entire team. The matter was dropped after the apology.

PCB to take action against Shaheen Afridi:

Although the team management had dismissed the matter, the PCB has not done so. The board recently took action against the team directors for not taking action against Shaheen Afridi. Wahab Riaz, who was serving as the senior team director, and Mansoor Rana were sacked by the PCB earlier this week.

The board has continued its investigation and is likely to take action against Shaheen Afridi as well. According to the media outlet, the fast bowler may not be considered for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh at home. The PCB is also looking into the formation of player lobbying within the team.

The PCB has been receiving some major criticism following Pakistan’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup last month. The Men in Green bowed out of the competition at the group stage. They started their campaign with a shock defeat against the USA before losing to India as well. They beat Canada and Ireland but those wins were not enough for a place in the Super 8. On the other hand, India won the tournament without losing a single match.
