Bangladesh national cricket team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has come under scrutiny amid the ongoing first Test against the Indian national cricket team. The first match of the two-Test series between the teams has been played for three days so far.
Bangladesh is way behind in the game and their chances of winning are very low. One of the main reasons behind that has been the poor performance of their all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who became the team’s most-capped Test player.
Shakib has not bowled much in the game, and this has led to a lot of speculation. The all-rounder came into the attack very late in the first innings and after that, he bowled seven overs on the third day. Not only that, but he was also not up to par with the ball.
Shakib was bowled out by Rishabh Pant, who hit him for six fours and two sixes. He finished with the most expensive match figures of his Test career. It was also only the fifth time he went wicketless in a Test after bowling at least 20 overs.
As Shakib is bowling less and less, Murali Kartik, on the air, mentioned that the all-rounder informed him that he was having discomfort in his finger and shoulder with which he bowled. The former Indian bowler elaborated on the issue (as quoted by ESPNCricinfo):
“After seeing him and knowing him for so long, I went up to him and asked him why he hadn’t played enough. What he told me is something I can completely relate to. He had had surgery on his throwing finger, which is the tip of the finger on his left hand.
“He’s swollen, he’s stiff, he’s got no movement, no flexibility. That’s why he feels like he doesn’t feel anything. As a bowler, you need to feel it. Also, he has shoulder problems, so it’s a combination of both and it’s difficult to bowl in Test cricket, where you need that feeling as a bowler.”
Shakib Al Hasan suffered a finger injury during the ICC World Cup 2023. In the same tournament, he suffered a shoulder injury and after that, he missed a lot of action for the team.
However, Shakib Al Hasan has not complained of a finger or shoulder injury recently, according to BCB chief physician Dr Debashish
However, BCB chief physician Dr Debashish has played down the rumours of Shakib Al Hasan’s injuries. He said that the all-rounder has not complained of a finger or shoulder injury. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained:
“Shakib fractured his finger during the World Cup in India. Before that, he had suffered an infection due to another finger injury a few years ago. However, Shakib has not complained of any finger or shoulder injury recently. However, a broken finger can cause discomfort.”
Shakib Al Hasan was the top scorer for his side in the first innings as he scored 32 runs off 64 balls before being dismissed by an ill-timed sweep. He is currently batting at 5 runs off 14 balls in the second innings and would be keen to make a big impact.
