Sri Lanka claim dominant 140-run win
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Pathum Nissanka (66), Kusal Mendis (54) and Janith Liyanage (53) scored half-centuries to propel the innings. In the first innings they scored 290/8 in 50 overs. Matt Henry led the way for New Zealand, taking 4/55 from 10 overs.
In the second innings, the Sri Lankan players dominated the proceedings. Maheesh Theekshana and Asitha Fernando broke the New Zealand top order as the Kiwis were reduced to 21/5 in just 7 overs.
Even Mark Chapman’s valiant effort of an unbeaten 81 off 81 balls could not take New Zealand home. Three wickets each from Asitha Fernando, Theekshana and Eshan Malinga helped Sri Lanka win by 140 runs.
