Fans on Twitter were not happy after all-rounder Hardik Pandya was named vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is all set to be played in the Caribbean and the United States of America from 1 to 30 June.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (April 30) named the 15-member strong squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The team saw some bold decisions when Rinku Singh and KL Rahul were dropped and Yuzvendra Chahal. He was chosen on the team.
One of the things that caught the attention of many was that Hardik Pandya was given the role of vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2024. The all-rounder has gone through an excellent run in the ongoing IPL and has failed to deliver goods as a leader of the Mumbai Indians.
There were reports that Hardik Pandya could be sacked as vice-captain of the team and Rishabh Pant could be given a nod for the position. However, it was not to be as the all-rounder was entrusted with the role he filled in the ICC World Cup 2023.
The 2024 T20 World Cup will also mark the return of Hardik Pandya to the Indian team after a long injury. He was injured during the World Cup and has since missed action with the team. However, before that, he captained the team in T20Is in the absence of Rohit Sharma.
The Mumbai Indians captain failed to set the stage on fire in the ongoing IPL 2024. The all-rounder has been struggling with his form with both the bat and the ball and has also been the subject of a lot of analysis. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians also lost many games.
