The World Tests Championship established for an important review with two -level format before the Indian tour of England

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering an important review of the World Testing Championship Model (WTC) before its fourth cycle. The current format will be suspended, and a two -level system will be introduced after the final game of the WTC 2025 between Australia and South Africa.

The next World Test Championship cycle will begin with a five -game test series between England and India in July 2025. The current structure of the World Testing Championship has faced criticism of both players and experts, with concerns about their lack of Uniformity and justice to all teams.

World test championship established for an important review before the next cycle

According to a Telegraph Sport report, the president of the Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB), Richard Thompson, who also leads the Strategic Growth Committee of the International Cricket Council, is leading efforts to renew the test championship format World Cups

Thompson is collaborating with the president of the ICC, Jay Shah, to introduce a new format before the next cycle begins. The two recently held conversations in Dubai to address problems with the current system and create a “fairer competition.”

“It is completely understood that the current structure does not work in the way that should and we need to find a fairer and better competition, but at this stage no recommendations have been presented,” Thompson told Telegraph Sport.

“We have five months to work on this, step back and look what the structure should be in the future. The World Testing Championship should be more fair and competitive. He will change to make sure that he always encourages the best teams to reach the final and encourages other nations who want to play the test cryket, play the test cryket. We will protect, grow and guarantee the integrity of the trial cricket because the format is crucial to the DNA of the game, “he added.

India, Australia and England are the only teams that play more than 15 tests

In the current cycle of the World Testing Championship, only India, Australia and England have played more than 15 tests. South Africa, who are finalists, played only 12 games, with their six series being matters of two games.

This inconsistency has been criticized, since teams do not face all other countries. Political reasons have prevented India and Pakistan from playing. It is worth mentioning that South Africa advanced to the WTC final without facing Australia, although they will meet in the June title in Lord’s.

Four -day tests for series excluding ‘Big Three’ in consideration

The ICC is exploring the possibility of introducing four -day tests to series that do not involve the ‘great three’ (India, Australia and England). This change is being considered due to the difficulty of programming in a Cricket calendar that is already full of international events of white ball and franchise cryket.

Many tests in these days end early, which makes it feasible to shorten the format and still guarantee a quality cryket. The objective is to allow teams to play more evidence squeezing in an additional match, ensuring at least a series of three games. However, this proposal would not apply to main series that involve the ‘great three’.
